La Congrega fiorentina

È il 25 novembre, giorno in cui si inaugura l'esposizione a Palazzo Vecchio della scultura di Damien Hirst, For the Love of God. Mi trovo nei pressi di via dei Calzaiuoli quando noto un lounge bar, La Congrega, così decido di entrare.

L'ingresso consiste in una stradina strettissima fra due palazzi rinascimentali ai cui lati ci sono divanetti e tavolini, mentre l'interno del locale è piuttosto piccolo.

Ordino un tè siriano che viene servito con diversi biscotti - fortunatamente, visto i €7 del tè - di diverso tipo, speziati e al burro, buoni, con tazze e teiera di design.

Il locale è accogliente, sia lo spazio interno che l'ingresso-corridoio, che rimane esterno, sono illuminati da luci soffuse e candele su ogni tavolo.

Anche il menu ha un look curato (come si vede dalla foto) come pure il biglietto da visita, in stile con l'immagine del locale (predominano il nero e il bianco, molto lounge, appunto). Lo staff è gentile al punto giusto.

Un dettaglio trash, purtroppo, nell'arredamento: ad un tratto alzo lo sguardo verso il lampadario in ferro battuto posizionato al centro del soffitto e...vi è appesa della lingerie. Addio al nubilato di qualche americana ubriaca? Residui del carnevale passato (ormai da 10 mesi)? Bah.

Non pubblico foto del soggetto in questione per rispettare il decoro. In ogni caso:

Lo consigliamo perché ci piace: il tè; i biscotti; la location; la teiera con le tazze; la diversità rispetto a molti bars (troppo) turistici del centro di Firenze.
Per favore no: i prezzi (troppo) turistici come nel centro di Firenze.

Canela in London

Located in Covent Garden, the Canela is a small café which offers Portuguese and Brazilian dishes which you can admire on display at the counter, a colour mix of red, orange, brown, yellow and white.
Maybe it is not easy to get a table at busy times because of the space, but for aperitive or dinner during the week it is nice to sit next to somebody else at the long rectangular table in the centre of the room.
The place style is different from many touristic or massive ones: it is simple but cool, with an easy-going but chill-out atmosphere, with a chandelier hanging from the ceiling and a big retro-style mirror.
They have a varied offer of dishes, among them different types of chorizos, salads and desserts. I had a soup of day, a very mellow cream with pieces of vegetables served with bread and butter.
A pity that I did not try a wine, there is a big offer with bottles carefully placed at the walls like in a stock of vintage wines.

We like: the relaxed atmosphere; the view of the tempting dishes at the counter; the friendly staff.
We would like: more tables inside to seat them at, but we find that if the space were bigger and full of people, we would loose that intimate atmosphere of the place.
